What's the most common childhood disorder in the world?
Today it is autism. What used to be a rare disorder, affecting fewer than one child in 30,000, is now more common than spina bifida, childhood cancer, Down syndrome, or any other communication disorder. It now affects one child in 150. Today autism is diagnosed about 200 times as often as it was when the prevalence was less than 1/30,000 sometime prior to 1980. Why is this?
